REPORT

As part of the Day of Transport Culture GYSEV Zrt. participated in educating children about conscious railway transport at two locations, Budapest and Sopron with rich interactive programs.

The slogan of our event was: Be smart in traffic – be safe on the train!

The event was announced in the online and offline regional media of the railway company's operation area as well as on the Facebook page of GYSEV Zrt., thus reaching the social media community with our message. We also informed the passengers about the Day of Transport Culture through the PA systems at the railway stations.

We represented the Day of Transport Culture by participating in the Prevent Expo in Budapest upon the invitation of the National Accident Prevention Committee, and with our programs organized at the Sopron Railway Station. The event was attended by nearly 180 children, possible reaching 500 participants altogether when calculating the adults as well. We had school classes and kindergarten groups visiting us, including socially disadvantaged or physically handicapped children, and we also had families with small children, pensioners and adults simply interested in the railway come along too.

The participants received detailed information on the following:

  • activities of the GYSEV Group (in Budapest)
  • basic knowledge on railway transport,
  • railway traction vehicles and rolling stock,
  • behavioural rules at the station and during the trip,
  • railway operation and the central traffic management,
  • promoting the road rules of level crossings in Hungary and Austria in a mini traffic park at the Sopron Railway Station.

As part of the programs at Sopron children could try out the mini traffic park and gain general traffic safety knowledge as well as learn about the compliant and safe way of getting around at railway stations and getting on and off the trains. They could board our VECTRON electric locomotive, fill out quizzes, and visit the traffic management tower as well as the KÖFE Centre supervising the entire network of GYSEV.

The main objective of the rich interactive programs was to educate children already at this early age to become conscious in traffic, which, matching the profile of the GYSEV Group, is a significant priority of our corporate social responsibility program.

The Day of Transport Culture was a great success, at least half of the attending children said that they wanted to become railmen. We trust that they will stick to this plan in the coming decades.
